oarstruck - rowing 3,000 miles across the atlantic ocean with type 1 diabetes

With a name like the Talisker Whiskey Challenge you might expect the event to be set in a pub, instead it is an incredible challenge to row 3,000 mile across the Atlantic Ocean. Why is this of interest to 1Bloodydrop.com?

In 2015 Hugo Thompson from Newport South Wales was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Hugo describes the last couple of years as ‘interesting’ and his diabetes has not stopped him from going on to achieve his goals.  Hugo joined his friends Monty Williams, John Morgan & Joel Wood all aged 26 & together they form team Oarstruck.   On December 12 they boarded a small boat, called Tiny Dancer, that measures just 29 feet long and 5 feet wide and they began an epic challenge to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean in the Talisker Whiskey Challenge 2017.

The guys are competing in this race as Team Oarstruck and they plan to row 3,000 miles in just 50 days. The boat measures just 29 feet long by 5 feet wide and the team will live, eat and sleep on the boat without any outside assistance during the challenge.  Hugo says that they have a risk assessment and a plan for every situation  including any additional challenges that his diabetes might present.

Hugo tells us how the team have a risk assessment and a plan for everything including his diabetes and the whole team are all trained to deal with his diabetes. Having now spent almost a month at sea Oarstruck are over half way through the challenge and you can track their progress in real time by downloading the Yellow Brick Application for your phone or tablet.
